Flying with Austrian Airlines
Founded in 1957, Austrian Airlines, also known as “myAustrian” or just simply “Austrian”, is the national flag carrier of Austria. Austrian Airlines is a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group and became a member of the prestigious Star Alliance in 2000. Carrying 11.2 million passengers in 2014 at a total load average of close to 79%, Austrian airlines operates a network of 5 domestic locations and more than 120 international destinations in 50 countries. Austrian Airlines fleet consists of 5 Boeing 777-200 ER, 6 Boeing 767-300 ER for long-haul flights, 29 Airbus A321/A320/A319, 21 Fokker F100/F70 and 18 Bombardier Q400 for short and medium haul flights. Operating under the slogan "The Charming Way To Fly", Austrian Airlines is headquartered in the Austrian city of Schwechat. In 2012 the airline merged with fellow Austrian brand Tyrolean Airways.
Online check-in
- Online check-in for Austrian Airlines flights opens 47 hours before the scheduled departure time. For the following destinations the service is available 24 hours before the scheduled departure: Basel, Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Larnaca, Oslo, Podgorica, Pristina, Sarajevo, Skopje, Stockholm, Tirana, and Zurich. Online check-in for all destinations closes 1 hour before the flight’s scheduled departure.
- Online check-in is not currently available for flights from the following destinations: Dubrovnik, Malé and Split.
- Passengers checking in online are able to select their preferred seat on board the aircraft for free during the check-in process.
- Passengers are also able check in at an airport check-in desk or self-service terminal for free.
Cabin luggage allowance
- Cabin luggage on all Austrian Airlines flights must not exceed the dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.
- The maximum weight for cabin luggage items is 8kg for all destinations.
- 1 piece of cabin luggage baggage is allowed per person. Passengers are also entitled to carry 1 small item such as a purse, laptop, or bag of duty-free goods in addition to their cabin luggage. Passengers may add an additional piece of cabin luggage for a fee.
- Passengers travelling with infants aged less than 2 years old may carry a stroller, carrycot and/or small bag containing baby food on board the flight.
Checked baggage allowance
- The maximum dimensions per item of checked baggage on a Austrian Airlines flight are 158cm.
- The maximum weight allowance of any 1 item of checked baggage for all routes operated by Austrian Airlines is 23kg. This limit can be increased to a maximum of 32kg per item for a fee.
- Passengers on intercontinental flights are entitled to 1 item of checked baggage for free. This can be increased to 2 items for a fee. Passengers flying within Europe must pay for each item of checked luggage they wish to bring on-board the flight. The fee for these purchases is dependent on the weight of the baggage.
- Passengers flying with infants under the age of 2 are permitted to check 1 fully collapsible stroller weighing up to 10kg free of charge on all Austrian Airlines flights.
- Any items of baggage that exceed the weight or size allowance, or baggage that has already been purchased during the booking of the flight, will be subject to an excess charge which will be calculated according to the excess size, weight or number of additional items.
