Flying with Bulgaria Air
Bulgaria Air is the national carrier of Bulgaria and in 2008 with a fleet of 13 aircraft, carried a total of 1,185,430 passengers. The airline operates regular flights from Sofia, Varna and Bourgas to 28 major destinations within Europe and The Middle East. Bulgaria Air works together with a number of aviation partners including Aeroflot, Air Berlin, Air France, Air Serbia, Alitalia, Czech Airlines, Iberia, KLM, LOT Polish Airlines and TAROM, and offers passengers an opportunity to visit over 400 cities across Europe, Asia, Africa and Northern America. The airline also has interline agreements with Brussels Airlines, Emirates, Finnair, Jet Airways, TAM Airlines, US Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Bulgaria Air has headquarters in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia and was founded in 2002, then subsequently privatised in 2006.
Online check-in
- Online check-in is available for all Bulgaria Air flights departing from Sofia, Varna, Bourgas, London (Heathrow and Gatwick), Zurich, Milan, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and Vienna.
- Online check-in is available 24 hours before take-off and closes 2 hours before the scheduled departure.
- Seat selection is available for all passengers checking in online and can be completed during the check-in process.
- Airport check-in is also available to all passengers flying with Bulgaria Air from all destinations operated by the airline. Airport check-in closes 40 minutes before the flight’s scheduled departure. No extra fee is charged for using airport check-in.
Cabin luggage allowance
- All cabin luggage carried on Bulgaria Air flights must not be greater than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, with a maximum sum of all dimensions up to 115cm.
- The maximum weight for cabin luggage items is 10kg.
- Each passenger of a flight operated by Bulgaria Air has the right to carry 1 piece of cabin luggage. In case that passenger’s baggage does not conform to the size and weight standards, it will be transferred to registered baggage. If the baggage is heavier than the set norms it will be charged as overweight baggage.
Checked baggage allowance
- Passengers of Bulgaria Air flights are entitled to carry 1 item of checked baggage no larger than 158cm.
- The maximum weight allowance for a single item of checked baggage is 23kg. This may be increased to 32kg per item for a fee.
- Each passenger is entitled to 1 item of checked baggage for free. Additional baggage can also be booked for a fee, provided it meets the weight and size limitations defined by the airline. Passengers travelling with infants aged less than 2 years old are permitted to check baby strollers free of charge.
- Sports equipment is considered as a piece of checked baggage with a maximum weight allowance of 23 kg and dimensions of 200cm. A fee will be charged for all items of sport equipment that exceed these limits.
