Flying with Kenya Airways
Kenya Airways was founded in 1977 and became the 1st African airline to ever fully privatise in 1996. The airline became a full member of SkyTeam in June 2010 and has been a member of the African Airlines Association since 1977. Kenya Airways offers flights to over 60 international destinations throughout Africa, South Asia and Europe and in 2015, carried 4.2 million passengers, a rise of close to 1 million compared to the previous year. The airline's fleet of 45 aircraft is mostly comprised of Boeing 737 models and 15 Embracer 190s. Kenya Airways company slogan is “The Pride Of Africa” and in 2013 the airline was ranked fourth among the top ten African airlines by seat capacity, behind South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and EgyptAir.
Online check-in
- Passengers of Kenya Airways flights can check in online from 30 hours until 2 hours before departure.
- When checking in online, passengers are required to provide passport details and the information issued on their E-ticket when the flight was booked.
- Special online check-in baggage drop counters are available at all airports served by Kenya Airways for passengers with baggage to check-in.
- Passengers are also able to check in at the airport for all Kenya Airways flights. For international flights, passengers are required to check in at least 2 and a half hours before departure of the flight, with counters closing 1 hour prior to departure, while domestic flights require check in 30 minutes before take-off.
Cabin luggage allowance
- Passengers flying with Kenya Airways are entitled to carry 1 piece of cabin baggage with dimensions no larger than 55cm x 25cm x 35cm plus one accessory such as a laptop, handbag, briefcase or camera bags. Infants less than 2 years of age who are not occupying a seat are allowed one piece of cabin baggage of 55cm x 25cm x 35cm.
- The maximum weight of cabin luggage for Kenya Airways flights is 12kg. Infants less than 2 years of age who are not occupying a seat are allowed 1 piece of cabin baggage of 12kg.
- Infants and small children (aged less than 2 years) are permitted to bring a device on board if they require a seat that needs to be secured with an approved device for comfort. This is a free addition to the normal free cabin baggage allowance.
Checked baggage allowance
- The dimensions of any checked luggage on Kenya Airways flights cannot exceed 158cm. For bags originating from Dubai, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Guangzhou, total dimensions shall not exceed 180cm.
- The maximum weight of each piece of checked baggage must not exceed 23kg. This amount can be increased to 32kg for a fee.
- Each passenger of a Kenyan Airways flight is entitled to 2 free items of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 23kg each for international flights, and one free item of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 23kg for domestic flights. Additional baggage allowance and weight increases are available for a fee.
